Warmsworth lions -v- Branton Juniors

Underdogs Warmsworth Lions roared to a 2-0 victory over the hot favourites and division B champions in an exciting climax to the season.

An end to end match saw both sides battle hard but it was the Lions who deservedly walked away with the cup. Despite Branton not conceding a goal in their last three cup ties it took Warmsworth just four minutes to break the deadlock when Jake McFatter slammed home his sixth cup goal of the campaign. A fierce long range effort from Lions captain Aiden Hall could only be parried by opposing keeper Jake Rushby and McFatter pounced from three yards out to edge his side ahead.

Shots from Curtis Clayton and Reece Ibbotson were both well dealt with by Rushby, who was undoubtedly the busier of the two keepers in the opening stages, while the opposite number Christian Norton produced superb saves from Thomas Bell and Robbie Reed when required.

Three minutes later Lions doubled their lead when pacy winger Lyndon Thompson stormed down the right before firing an unstoppable shot in the net.

The furious pace of the game settled down after the restart and Bell and Drummond both went close to halving Warmsworth's lead, while Thompson and Jack Walton-Gales nearly wrapped up victory with a third.
